Week 1 Introduction to Sustainability
Research for this week

Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin was an English architect, designer, artist and critic .He is principally remembered for his pioneering role in the Gothic Revival style of architecture. His work highlights the beauty of symmetry. Relief and perforated earthenware tiles with enamel glazes in yellow, turquoise, dark blue, lavender, white and red. Leaf-like fixtures adorn the quatrefoil bays, and similar leaves appear at the corners of the tiles. The introduction of these patterns and reflectors can create interesting lighting effects that mimic the authentic character of a dim medieval environment. His work shows a clear preference for ornate detail. Gothic lettering, fleur-de-lis and stylized foliage patterns, and elaborate tracery are all common features of Pugin’s designs that defined the Gothic Revival style.
I have been inspired that our next project will be based on plants. I will try to learn Pugin’s color scheme and simplify the flowers and plants. For example, I will record some plants with interesting outline shapes, and start from the splicing of simple graphics. It will be easier to sort out logically.
Mark making experiment
material: recycling materials, acrylic, roller

I used white acrylic to make irregular gradients and let it naturally overflow the frame. The roller played a very important role in this experiment. I can evenly apply the colour to where I want it.

The knife has regular tooth patterns, so I scraped out interesting textures on the slightly thicker acrylic paint. Also, I really like the feathery effect which I made.

Although I only have three discs on hand, I can use the overlay effect to form a regular pattern of four disc patterns as a group.

Week 2 Emerging Technologies in Fashion
As science and technology continue to evolve, the concept of the metaverse is taking shape and undergoing changes. It combines the Internet, virtual reality, immersive experience, blockchain, industrial Internet, cloud computing, and other digital technologies, making it the ultimate digital medium that integrates all current and future digital technologies. Its potential to bridge the real and virtual worlds makes it a revolutionary technology that creates a new world beyond the current reality. The metaverse is, essentially, a vision of the future society. One area that I find fascinating is the emergence of virtual fashion. The use of digital virtual clothing offers unique advantages that are difficult to achieve in the real world, such as the ability to create designs with fantasy elements and use materials and technologies not found in physical clothing. I have collaborated with many Chinese virtual fashion design bloggers to explore this exciting new trend.

I simply taught myself an introduction to virtual clothing self-study. I chose NOMAD modelling software. The silhouette and colour inspiration of the clothes came from first-hand information about the flowers I went to Covent Garden to research.

Week 3 Nature
This week I focus on spreading my thoughts, including free play in painting, and thoughts on colour matching that are not fixed. The main thing is to change and release my own limitations in painting, and actively produce some imperfect but interesting works. We used many creative techniques to complete the sketch, such as continuous lines, drawing with the left hand, and drawing with eyes closed. I came to the conclusion that as long as you create boldly, you will definitely have new ideas. At the same time, in order to prevent us from falling into the inherent personal thinking of painting, we were also arranged to take turns to stand in different places to paint. As long as everyone’s thoughts are interspersed together, no matter the colour or shape, they will be broken up. We also completed a sketch made by several classmates.

Week 4 cultural & sustainability
Speaking of art with Chinese characteristics, I thought I could try out how to make a series of paper plants. In my impression, there was a unique way of making paper flowers in my childhood. I was very interested in the art of paper flowers, so I took some waste paper for experiments. During the production, I also explored the art of three-dimensional paper-cutting, which can be completed with only one piece of paper.

Week 5 Empathy
Empathy refers to psychological empathy, empathy, and the ability to have cognitive awareness, grasp, and understanding of the emotions and feelings of others. Mainly reflected in aspects related to emotional intelligence such as emotional self-control, perspective-taking, listening ability, and expression of respect. In this kind of mutual running-in with others, we need to change our mentality from time to time in order to understand what others are thinking. Thoughts are colourful and have various emotions. Only when everyone gets along with each other can the candle in the heart be lit.

REFLECTION
I actively participate in weekly lectures, so the experiments and works I upload are closely related to the theme. I am trying different skills to complete these small tasks. My favourite is the understanding of the Metaverse in the second week because I taught myself a little 3D modelling and made my own digital virtual clothing. I am very accomplished. feel. The task of blogging every week can help me develop new skills. I love this kind of formal task. It can help me spread my thinking very well. Then let me talk about my thoughts after browsing through it. The first is the lack of layout. I often can’t find my title. Sometimes I feel that the picture takes up too much space. Sometimes, I post pictures are always without annotations and process diagrams. From a reader’s perspective, I think these contents all seem too rigid, without a good logical flow, and I feel that my thoughts jump a little too fast. If there is still time before the deadline, I will make adjustments. Second, after reading my partner’s blog about mutual evaluation, I think that even though my weekly output is closely related to the theme of the lecture, my current output is a bit messy. I think I need to think about how to transform these works in the end. Displayed in the form of prints. Keep up the good work and hope to be better next time.
After looking at this blog I have found you have only uploaded the first week of tasks but from what I can see you have been experimental with your mark-making and used a variety of recycled materials in response to the sustainability lecture that was delivered. The first material used for your mark-making has created an effective motif for a potential repeat pattern. I really liked the disposable knife outcome I think the shapes created are interesting and the colour choice in the second mark-making works well together. Each of your mark-making has a different texture which shows you have experimented. Due to you only submitting one week of tasks, I do think that developing your mark-making with collage links with the ‘Emerging Technologies in Fashion’ lecture that was delivered the second week. I love how you have combined your outcomes into these collages, you’ve played with scale and colour and made them work well together. The research for your first week is interesting and I think the pieces are really cool, but I get the impression that you have linked it with another project, which is irrelevant to this current project and does not link with sustainability. I would have loved to see some more weeks of work from you as I enjoyed looking through your mark-making from the first week’s lecture. For next time I think it would be useful to experiment more with different mediums like oil pastels, watercolours or charcoal to get a range of textures.
