week1 _sustainability

In the first week, I responded to the topic of sustainable development. At the outset, my starting point was to collect common packaging materials from daily life, such as wrapping paper, empty bottles, and disposable cutlery.

Through this project, I aimed to create printed artwork with an environmental conscience by repurposing recycled materials. I made conscious efforts to employ eco-friendly methods. By using non-toxic inks and water-based paints, I ensured that my creative process would not have harmful effects on the environment. Then, I chose three colors and applied them to these materials, leaving irregular traces on the paper. After creating these simple marks in print, I attempted to collage them into new printed artwork.

I first scanned my mark making work, then quickly adjusted the print size using Photoshop. I changed the color or proportions of some patterns, and finally, I came up with these prints that I like the most.

Week 2 – Emerging Technologies

I have researched of this topic, and obtained the following points through research—— Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)、Artificial Intelligence (AI)、Wearable Technology、Sustainable Fashion Technologies and 3D Printing.   Through my research, I found that digital media enables designers to quickly and intuitively visualize the final outcome of their designs.   This not only saves a lot of design costs but also reduces material waste, making the design process more eco-friendly and efficient, I’m excited because this technology is well-established and widely adopted.  In the electronic drawing software I’ve been using, I’ve added 3D drawing capabilities.  So, I decided to try and create a 3D mask for myself using this software as a first develop.

After finishing this, I also used a 3D pen to create a physical mask sample for comparison with the virtual mask.

week3  – nature

This time, most of my inspiration for this project came from Hyde Park, which has vast green areas and beautiful lakes.  But what really caught my attention were the simple, everyday wildflowers and ripe berries.  So, I decided to focus my research on these common plants.

In class, I learned some basic printing techniques and realized that when it comes to printing, you need to think about the order and how you cut the shapes into positives and negatives.   I used two pieces of research and traced the plant outlines to create simple shapes, resulting in the prints we see here.

After getting the initial prints, I scanned them and used Photoshop for further development.  I also made a few photocopies to do some additional drawing on top.
