Week 1 – Sustainability

As we were introduced to our weeks theme, which was sustainability I decided to create some art responses which included in using recycled plastics, and materials which i brought from home. I decided to bring Water bottles from home which I then cut the lids off to be able to create patterns, i was able to deconstruct the bottles and create different prints just from one item. I also brought the labels from bottles, paper gift bags, and straws which helped me add texture to my paintings. I created several different prints just by using recycled items.

The mark makings/prints I made.

I used plastic wrapping, the labels and also the paper gift bag to create patterns, but also to create a marble effect in some prints by blending in the paint with the plastic items.

Week 2 – Emerging Technologies

As technology is now so popular in the fashion industry it’s allowing us to be able to create new different designs, to collaborate with different people, different cultures, its helping us get critiqued by people globally its allowing us to see different opinions which can help us improve and generate more ideas. We are being able to bring out something new to the public by collaborating with people that all have a different view to fashion and being able to merge the two. It can bring our creativity to life, and is helping us to become more environmentally friendly by minimising overproduction and waste, and being able to create more sustainable collections. I have even seen now in the fashion industry is new to bring out 3D digital experiences showcasing garments.

So what I decided to do for this lecture was to use two simple pictures I took from when I went to the Serpentine Gallery and see if I’m able to bring those pictures to life and develop a print out of them, to just let my creative side flow and see what I am able to create from two normal pictures, the app I used to create these designs/prints is called Procreate.

These are the pictures I have used were these two, as I was exploring the gallery I think these two made me think more of technology, the first one because is pretty straight forward and is many wires being bunched up and all being messy, very simple but stood out to me. And the other one was this digital 3D video game where it showed this character running around and being able to climb walls, i liked both of the pictures colour pallets as both included reds and brown.

The designs/prints I have made

For this print I didn’t want to change a lot because I wanted to keep the design original, so what I did is I played with the brightness and made the contrast higher to give a bigger pop of colour, I added a rectangle on top of the actual picture and made it see through and liquified it, to give two different backgrounds, and I also did draw and colour some bits of the picture in blue, red and purple.

For this print I created I tried to turn the brightness down to give it a low exposure, and I tried to highlight the colours and make it brighter to bring them out, after I did that I duplicated the layer and placed it on top but moved it to make it look like its glitching, I also played with the contrast, and used the repeat pattern for the other print.

Week 3 – Nature

As our weeks lecture was nature we have been exploring different ways to draw and to be careless when drawing to really express ourselves, as we explored many techniques on how to draw, I was able to finally start creating my own drawings using different colours to be able to find my colour pallet, and using the research that I have to help me. I went and visited quite a few gardens in central London and took pictures of the greenery around me I was able to find different flowers with vibrant colours and also trees.
