Week 1 – Introduction To Sustainability
Last week we were introduced to the theme of sustainability. After the lecture I went and did some research around the theme. I looked at sustainability as a whole but mostly in the fashion industry. The fashion industry is known for its high resource consumption, pollution, and labor issues. Fashion brands are increasingly using sustainable materials such as organic cotton, hemp, Tencel, and recycled fibers to reduce the environmental impact of textile production. I decided to make a small mark making piece to represent my interpretation of sustainability in the fashion industry. I’ve called the piece ’Death Of Planet Earth’.
The use of red of course represents blood and symbolises death and the green is referring to the planet and nature. All the materials I used to make the marks were all scraps or recycled.

Week 2: Emerging Technologies In Fashion
This weeks lecture was based on Technology this is a theme i really enjoy and theres so many directions you can go in so I decided to look at the metaverse fashion week. After doing a little research and seeing all the looks I decided to create my own garment.

Week 3: Nature

Personal Feedback:
So far I have really enjoyed all the lectures and seminars. My favourite would have to have been technology as this is a theme I enjoy working with. I think to make it better I need to show links more, personally I don’t think it’s not being shown how I get to certain ideas and pieces of work. After reviewing my blogs, I can see there is a lot of writing although I understand research is important I think I get carried away with that instead of using that time to make more pieces of physical work. I don’t think I’ve used a range of media’s and techniques as I would have liked to show my response to the themes, this is something I need to do more of in the next blog.
I think I have played it safe with the art work I have been producing so far, I have put gone out of my comfort zone, which is what the blogs are for, I feel this is the time to be doing the most and trying different things. I think I need start using more colours a lot and actually take inspiration from images and things I see around me. I think I’m very good at not limiting the things I’m looking at with that theme, which I think is good as it allows the research I’ve done to show through in the pieces of work i produce.
Cultural Sustainability
For this weeks lecture i decided to look at the Papuans indigenous peoples tribe. I looked at the body paintings in particular.

Empathy

For this lecture I decided to look at colour and emotions.
