Week1
Introduction to Sustainability
The influence of the fashion industry on the environment is getting more and more serious, so we have the responsibility to promote the development of sustainable fashion. As a fashion textile designer, I should achieve this goal by selecting environmentally friendly materials, supporting local designers and ensuring fashion through recycling. So this week, the teacher took us to tate modern to see the works of art, and get some inspiration for materials.

by Mark Bradford 1961

by Andrea Bowers 1965
1.When I visited tate modern, I found this work, which shocked me, because it was only made of different paper and cloth. Among them, I am very interested in the color of this piece. A large area of black mixed with radioactive yellow and pink look like an explosion.
2.When I observed this work, I found that he finished it with recycled cardboard and markers. What I like best is the painting style this week, which inspired me to paint on different materials. Moreover, I observed that the paper jam and lines of this work are different, and the effect is better and more exquisite.

According to the study of the expression of the works, I learned some rubbing techniques in a workshop to show the similar techniques of the original works.

After getting the desired effect, we will start further development, and get different effects by constantly enlarging and reducing the image or toning the color.

Week 2
Emerging Technologies
I think the field of fashion design has always been a creative and changing industry. Among them, some emerging technologies, like my favorite 3 d printing technology, have a far-reaching impact on fashion design. It allows designers to make complex and personalized products such as clothing, shoes and jewelry by printing three-dimensional models. 3 d printing not only provides more highly customized design choices, but also reduces waste in the production process and the impact on the environment.
Because we have created our own brand (La Beaut é & Van), we need to design a logo and animation for ourselves, so we use C 4D software to model and render the animation, in which we find that metal materials has different visual effects when facing the animation rotation.

Week3
Natural
In this week’s lecture, we learned about nature. It also happens that we now have a project whose theme is nature, so I went to the Royal Park and some works on exhibitions as inspiration in daily life. In the daily class, the teacher taught us to draw in different ways, and got some unexpected results, because this is the first time.I experienced the unique painting technique, which makes me feel very interested.

In my after-class experiment, I tried to design a knitted flower card to study flower printing, and found that some knitting machine technologies can also be used as a kind of printing. Personally, I think it is not difficult to make a flower card, but it’s very complicated. It takes about 20 minutes to punch a hole.In general It looks very good.

Week 4
Cultural Sustainability
Yunnan, China is a region rich in biodiversity, and it is also an important area for ecological protection. Therefore, local people are very good at using local media to make something sustainable, which can not only keep the beauty of nature, but also make people dress themselves more beautifully.
BLUE DYE

Under the inheritance and innovation, natural fabrics such as silk and cotton are combined in various forms, such as binding, sewing, binding, stitching and clamping, and different shades of blue-and-white halos and wrinkles are dyed in indigo. The dyed fabric is hung on the bamboo pole, echoing the blue sky and white clouds at a distance, and the breeze blows, which has quite a charm of “white clouds rise far away and sway into the clear sky”, which makes me daydream infinitely.

WEEK 5
empathy
Empathy has a close relationship with painting, because painting can express and convey emotions and help to establish emotional resonance. Of course, it’s also a way of showing diversity. Painting can convey information in the form of images across language and cultural barriers. What I did was painting for some people who were subjected to violence. I use rubbings to express my anger at these abusers.

self reflection
I think I am very satisfied with my homework these weeks. It not only helps me learn a lot of knowledge, but also helps me explore new technologies of clothes. Among them, what I like best is the content of the third week, emerging technologies. I finished my favorite work-a modeling earring, based on the materials provided in the class every Wednesday and my continuous study on the Internet. I think this technology can be used in the fashion industry, which is a brand-new way to show personal fashion creativity. I also think I should do better, because sometimes I am not very firm about my skills, which leads to my using less. For example, the fabric transformation in the first week promoted sustainable development. If I didn’t attend the school workshop to learn printing technology, it is estimated that I am still slowly painting on cardboard with acrylic pigment to show the effect.
On the other hand, I also feel that I didn’t develop things in depth when I was cooking, which led to the mess of my dishes. Therefore, in the next homework, I will apply what I have learned to practical projects, accumulate experience and improve my skills continuously. I will work with my friends, too.
You have uploaded a wide range of great quality works. Overall, I thought you were very innovative in trying new methods within each task. In the first week of sustainability assignment, it was great to see how you took inspiration from artists’ work and technique, and incorporated them into your own work. I can see how you tried to combine various mediums in your prints. I like how the effect of the prints turned out in the final development. You also adjusted the color tones and sizes to achieve different outcomes. I saw that you utilized one print to produce multiple prints. However, I would like to suggest that you could have produced more patterns and shapes using this rubbing technique. I think it would be more interesting if you photocopy a range of drawings and chose the final 2-3 prints and then made further developments such as rearranging, merging, enlarging or reducing. In the second week of the “Emerging Technologies” task. while I was scrolling through your blog, I was already curious and facinated about your work. I can see that you are skillfully using the software of digital technology and making your own logo. I am very interesting with the background story of your brand. in your third week’s work, you have made a lot of quality work just as you did in all assignments. I like the fact that you have tried to draw a number of drawings from the methods that professors have taught. You also used the loom machine to make the final print. Although, when I saw a few paintings that went straight to knitted fabric, I was a little confused as to how the colors, and patterns were all transformed. I think if you demonstrate the process step by step with pictures it will make it more understandable to the viewer.
