Week 1 (♡⌂♡) – Introduction to sustainability

After having the lecture of sustainability this week, in the print workshop I tried to use some recycled things such as plastic bottles, bubblewrap, cardboard and form plastic board to draw some patterns.
Because of that experience, I surprisingly found how beautiful textures these recycled materials have. They can really make a lot of amazing patterns. If we can realize these beauty in our daily life and make them more valuable, a lot of waste might be reduced.
RESPONDING TO THE SUSTAINABILITY WORK:
Your response to the sustainability lecture is very interesting as your methods have captured how one could create mark making in a more sustainable manner ie. By using recycled materials. Aside from the process, you have created very beautiful, textured marks. I especially like the first image you have posted for this week. The way you have collaged the shapes on top of your previous mark making is very visually pleasing. In the background it appears that you have photocopied some of your mark makings, I think it would have been super interesting to see development of the initial marks made into collages, perhaps experimenting with scale, monocolour and layering. In the second image, I love your use of colour and the inconsistencies with the concentration of paint due to the bubble wrap technique used, also adds a lot of depth into the marks, making them more visually interesting. I think that to develop this further, it would have been interesting to see changes in scale and more collaging. Also, the colours that are mixed on your palette in the fourth picture are very interesting. I love the two-tone orange in the top right corner as well as the shades of green and purple you have mixed. These could be used as inspiration for colour palettes in the future, perhaps even inspiring how you create or use texture with paint because the paint palette shows variations where some has been mixed with a paintbrush, some has been swirled in a circular motion, some has been sponged etc.
